'Tis the season to shoot indoors...(fa la lala laaa lala la la) Now that our temperatures are dropping (and oh man are they...maybe we'll have a real winter this year?) most of my work moves indoors...something about goosebumps and blue lips just isn't cute in portraits haha!
My studio had a full renovation over the summer (I'll have a future post dedicated to it!) and it's all ready to make some magic this season. I have a pile of holiday crowns, an assortment of beautiful shawls, boleros and capelets, and fistfuls of glitter all waiting to make some timeless holiday portraits of your littles! These images make great gifts for grandparents (and moms! ...I see you guy whose wife forwarded this post haha!)
Through December 31 I will be running my studio holiday sessions for $175 which includes 5 images from your session, access to my client wardrobe, and full styling!
Get in touch asap to reserve your spot- and I can't wait to see you all of your beautiful babies over the coming months!
I love it when I get an opportunity to take a session to a full on fairy tale place- having free reign really lets my creativity flow. This little girl's mama always sets me loose with her- and after 3.5 years working with her we have a pretty good flow together! We started first in the studio with some slightly more standard photos- which you will have to wait for, then headed out to an area I knew would translate beautifully into a fairy wonderland. My little nymph and I left her mama in the parking lot with her new baby brother and made some magic together.
Her beautiful pink dress was created by CoralieBeatrix - it moved so beautifully, I'm so glad I could add it to my collection!
Oh man these girls were too much. I shot their session simultaneously with a long time friend of theirs, so I had a whole flock of fairies running around these gardens with me...we certainly got some attention haha!
These two were total hams- they loved playing fairy and once they settled in they started posing for me like little rock stars. The little one was basically vogueing at one point which was endlessly entertaining. I loved styling the girls in coordinating Tutu Du Monde dresses from my client wardrobe- and while I don't yet have a full selection of shoes I just happened to have gladiator sandals in both girl's sizes. Kismet!
The best was seeing how much these two love each other...sometimes posing siblings is like pulling teeth, but these two had a sweet comfort together that was fully genuine.
If you've followed me for any amount of time you know by now that if I travel I shoot. I love finding cool new locations to work in- in this case it was the incredible back yard at my Aunt & Uncle's home in Palm Springs! Their yard is an artists dream- there was so much variety in a relatively small area, and fortunately we were there in March so the crazy desert heat had yet to really amp up.
I brought a whole suitcase of wardrobe for this little princess- one of the hazards of shooting away from home haha! Between Nellystella, Tutu Du Monde, and Bowie James we had plenty of options to work with. This girl was so ready for her portraits...I find that most kids get that camera in front of them and ham it up a bit, which I love! I directed her very little and mostly just followed her lead. I really can't wait to make another trip out there to shoot again- well and maybe for just a little pool time ;)
The past winter I had the opportunity to attend an editing webinar hosted by the incredible Katie Andelman. If you don't know who Katie Andelman is well- you probably do. Her work has been all over social media and with good reason. Katie's images are the kind that stick with you- they have a magic that leaves a trace and makes people stop, and look. The kind of images I hope to achieve. Katie is one of the top child photographer's in existence. Needless to say, I jump at any opportunity to learn from her!
During the webinar I became acquainted with the lovely Melony Smith of Melony Smith Photography in South Africa (yes, Katie's reach is that far!) After learning so much from the webinar Melony and I decided to move forward with an in person mentorship session with Katie. Best. Decision. Ever.
Katie chose to host the session in her (beautiful) home. Right upon arriving I met Katie and her wife Christine (who I was also privileged to learn from) as well as their fluffy critters! Katie is one of the most welcoming, genuine, and kind people I've ever met. She had so much knowledge to impart, and no questions were off limits. Getting a peek into her creative process was so incredible- if you're a photographer looking to learn from the best, I cannot recommend Katie enough! My work has grown so much from what I learned during my time with Katie.
Here are some images I captured from the incredible styled shoot Katie planned for us;
Getting to photograph these three sweet, silly, busy boys was the highlight of my week! Any time you have three littles you're trying to capture in one frame you're in for a challenge- make them all boys and you really better be ready haha! Truthfully though these boys were fantastic- they listened well, played hard, and didn't hesitate for a second at the end when I asked them to go pick wildflowers for their mama. This session was actually done as a thank you to their daddy who saved my life...well- that might be a little dramatic, but if you've ever dislocated a knee you know how much you want to kiss the person who puts it back where it belongs haha.
This little girl was BORN to be a princess! Once we placed that crown on her head she just lit up. We were racing the rain for a couple hours, but managed to escape before the skies opened up on us, and what a trooper little Elena was when the wind started to kick up! She's only six, but I swear she had the poise and manners of a little adult- what a joy <3
I had the pleasure of getting to spend some time photographing one spunky little man this weekend! Zachary has such a sweet smile- made sweeter by the many dogs we encountered! He loves sports already, and let me tell you- this kid can kick a ball!! Catching this age on camera is really special- the littles change SO fast when they're this young, so snagging a piece of what they were like is really magical.
