Being a children's photographer in Parker is super convenient haha! I love living here because we're right on the cusp of country and city...which means lots of beautiful locations to shoot. One of my tried and true locations is 17 Mile Farmhouse Park. Most people are familiar with this park's super cute white house, big red barn and classic wind mill...but I really love how versatile the whole space is and rarely find myself near the structures. There's a path that leads back to a beautiful woodsy area, a small stream if you're willing to do a bit of path finding, and oh man the light that hits this place right before sunset is just unbeatable. I also love that every kiddo I photograph at this park finds their own magic in exploring it. Plus it's less than 10 minutes from my house- can't beat that commute!
And if you're out on the right day you might get to meet the neighbors... ;)
Is there anything better than a snow day when you're a kid? Overnight the world goes from the same plain old boring place to a white fluffy wonderland. Snow balls, snowmen, snow angels, catching flakes on your tongue- even just watching it fall. When I woke up to this wonderland my nordic blood tingled and my daughter and I were on the same page- we wanted to get out in that snow!
I love doing snow sessions- it's pure magic as soon as I get behind my camera, every time, and totally worth the frozen fingers. If you're interested in a snow session get in touch with me! I keep a snow day call list for those who want to take advantage of these magical days and get some unforgettable photos of their littles =)
These two kiddos were such a dream to photograph. This little man was so suave, and his big sister was ALL personality. I love these winter days that are JUST warm enough to head out in and shoot- we get THE most beautiful light in the winter afternoons! I love getting a chance to take holiday portraits for children- this time of year is so magical when you're little and that magic always seems to come through my lens! Plus it gives me an excuse to add beautiful holiday items to my client wardrobe- like this beautiful berry crown I got last year and the adorable plaid shirt princess J is wearing...I do love an excuse to shop =P
Available in my Client Wardrobe:
Prince G's shirt: Old Navy size 18-24m
Plaid Shirt: Old Navy size M
Flower Crown: Handmade Botanicals
Dress: Tutu Du Monde size 6-7
I love it when I get an opportunity to take a session to a full on fairy tale place- having free reign really lets my creativity flow. This little girl's mama always sets me loose with her- and after 3.5 years working with her we have a pretty good flow together! We started first in the studio with some slightly more standard photos- which you will have to wait for, then headed out to an area I knew would translate beautifully into a fairy wonderland. My little nymph and I left her mama in the parking lot with her new baby brother and made some magic together.
Her beautiful pink dress was created by CoralieBeatrix - it moved so beautifully, I'm so glad I could add it to my collection!
Every mother knows that motherhood does not come without a price- whether the price be our sleep, our sanity, our privacy, our old sense of identity- or yes, even our hair. This gorgeous mama has spent 8 years growing this gorgeous head of hair and has THE most beautiful dreadlocks- which her gorgeous nursing baby spent the last year slowly wearing bits and pieces away until the ends began thinning in places. So before her mama went to cut off inches of her lovely hard earned hair, she wanted one more photo session with her amazing baby. Motherhood is beautiful in the most unusual way sometimes.
It was a beautiful evening with this family- and I mean, come ON- this family is just STUNNING all around. Watching them laugh and play together just warmed my heart, and that little girl is just the sweetest ever!
What was your biggest sacrifice after becoming a parent?
Little Nora is such an awesome kiddo! I met Nora when she was still a teeny tiny newborn- and now she's two years old! Nora is exactly the kind of kid that made me specialize in child photography - capturing the pure joy of existing at this age is magical. And if you're wondering- yes- she was always this insanely cute. She is super playful and a bit of a ham for the camera- my favorite combo! To top it all off- Nora's Mama is easy on the lens too!!
My sweet little muse. I know how lucky I am you are mine- I know from experience how few toddlers care to sit still for a photography let alone POSE for one. I also know how lucky I am that you DON'T always sit still- that you've taught me to follow your lead and let you be you- you taught me that capturing what is actually there is often far more beautiful than the "cheeeese" moment. You left me with no choice BUT to believe in myself, because I couldn't imagine not being able to beautifully capture as much of your childhood as I could. You pushed me to learn, and your natural playfulness inspires me every day. Thank you my sweet little munchkin, for being you.
You may or may not know this about cameras, but they don't like water much. The amount of rain we've been getting is INSANE. Now as both a Seattle native, and recent Colorado Springs transplant, I love the rain...it reminds me of my family home, and it means a significantly lower chance of our beautiful state lighting on fire again! As a photographer- well- I've had to reschedule 3 sessions with all this crazy rain! One beautiful thing you can count on with this amount of precipitation though, is the tall beautiful grasses. I've had a couple opportunities in between the downpours to get out and shoot in it- it makes for such an incredible backdrop- especially when photographing children who are barely as tall as the grass!
